A NATIONAL RIDER RECOGNITION & ROAD-SAFETY INITIATIVE
TANZANIA BODA BODA AWARDS
Tanzania Boda Boda Awards is a national initiative of Tanzania Projects Organization (TPO), created to recognise the contribution of boda boda riders, promote road safety, strengthen livelihoods and build greater respect for one of Tanzania’s most important transport and income-generating sectors.

OUR STORY
Tanzania Boda Boda Awards began with a simple belief: the people who move Tanzania every day deserve to be heard, respected and recognised. Created by Tanzania Projects Organization (TPO), the initiative grew from direct conversations with riders, passengers and communities about the realities of the boda boda sector their contribution, challenges, ambitions and untold stories.
What started as a listening process is becoming a national platform for road safety, rider recognition, stronger livelihoods and meaningful collaboration between riders, government, businesses and communities. We are not simply organising an awards event; we are building a movement shaped by the voices of those at the heart of it.

WHY THIS INITIATIVE MATTERS
Every day, boda boda riders connect people to workplaces, schools, hospitals, markets and essential services. They create employment, support families and keep communities moving.
Despite this important contribution, many riders continue to face road-safety risks, limited access to training and financial services, unstable livelihoods, negative public perceptions and few opportunities for meaningful recognition.
Tanzania Boda Boda Awards was established to help change this story—not by speaking for riders, but by listening to them and building the initiative together with them.
MORE THAN AN AWARDS CEREMONY
TBBA is not simply a celebration. It is a platform for listening, learning, recognition and long-term improvement within the boda boda sector.
Through rider interviews, passenger conversations, stakeholder consultations, road-safety engagement and public storytelling, the initiative seeks to understand the realities of the sector and develop solutions grounded in lived experience.
Our future award categories and programmes will be informed by riders, passengers, government institutions, road-safety authorities, businesses and community stakeholders.
